Some research on my injury →
I injured my calf training for a marathon, and I’m looking for answers as to what the problem could be.  I have a weird strain on the upper, posterior portion of my calf behind my knee that I have endured now for 9 weeks.   http://running.competitor.com/2010/07/injuries/ask-the-experts-i-have-pain-in-my-calf-what-should-i-do_11501 Are any other runner buddies of mine out there...

Eating healthy and cheap →
This is an interesting article that I just found on one writer’s take on eating cheap and healthy.  Some of my favorite suggestions include Buy whey protein in bulk (suggested use as a meal supplement) Buy Frozen veggies Buy fatty meats (not sure if I agree as much with this one, be wary) EAT CANNED TUNA! (I love this one) Eat eggs (I really love this one too considering I eat between...

Details from the 4 hour people →
If you haven’t picked this up from my previous posts, the slow carb diet is my favorite LIFESTYLE diet that I’ve ever put to the test.  You don’t have to count calories, and you can eat however much you want of a few given categories.  It really eliminates decision in your diet, which I think the number one reason people fall off from diets is because they are given too many...

http://www.barnonedrinks.com/tips/reference/calorie_counter.html Hey emilyeatsright!  You mentioned that you would like me to make a post at around how many calories were in certain types of alcoholic beverages.  I hope this link helps!  It is a general ball park of calories per ounce of some popular beverages.  From the prior research that I have done on calories per drink, this is a pretty...

Usain Bolt: Foundations of sprint training →
In case you didn’t see him blow the competition out of the water in the 2008 Olympics, Usain Bolt is currently the world’s fastest man and all around freak of nature when it comes to sprinting.  If you’ve ever watched him run, you know what I’m talking about.  He maintains a 9.69 100m dash time and a 19.30 200m dash time which equates to a 3.54 40 yard dash...

the world's greatest training mystery →
Frank Martrisciano may be one of the most intense trainers I’ve ever read about.  Training college players and NBA phenoms, from the USF men’s basketball team to Blake Griffin and his brother Taylor Griffin, he creates the most difficult, twisted workout programs you could possibly imagine.  He takes athletes with great talent and potential, and makes them unstoppable, and untiring...

So my friends started a brewing company →
So I may be al little bias because I know one of the founding brewmasters, but honestly, I tried one of their beers when this venture was in its infancy and I have to say that Off the Wall Brewing’s product is nothing short of superb.  The sample beer which I was graciously gifted is called The Nanerpus.  Fittingly, it is actually brewed with whole bananas, and the flavor is unusually out of...

Strength vs. Hypertrophy →

Post Exhaustion vs. Pre Exhaustion Supersetting
Just another great way to change up your training program if you need some new ideas.   Pre-Exhaustion Supersets. This involves two exercises for the same muscle group. The first exercise is an isolation move, which targets one muscle group, and the second is a compound movement, which targets multiple muscles. Example: Leg extensions, which target the quads, followed by squats. The quads are...

Electrolytes →
Sports drinks put a lot into electrolytes by proposing that they are better than water for hydration during and after vigorous physical activity and sporting events.  Electrolytes are important to the human body and here is why “Chemically, electrolytes are substances that become ions in solution and acquire the capacity to conduct electricity. Electrolytes are present in the human body,...

forever-athlete: Here is my first summary blog post on one of the workshops I attended at the NC Multisport Expo last Saturday.  My first workshop was called “Identifying Correct Run Form and Dysfunctional Movement” with Jackie Miller, a triathlon coach, track and field coach, and FMS specialist.  I was only able to stay for the first 30 minutes or so because I really wanted to go to the...

http://m.active.com/running/articles/eleven_major_marathon_mistakes.htm?page=2 Just got sent this article from a good friend and long time running buddy of mine.  I’m not too sure about the credibility of the article considering that most every marathon training program recommends 2-4 runs during the week with a long run on weekends.  There are some other questionable facts on there that...

Slow Carb Diet: Ways to keep it tasty and... →
Been using the slow carb diet to cut weight for marathon training.  Gave it a try out of my own skepticism last year and ended up losing 8 pounds in 2 weeks.  Similar results this time.  Even not following as strict I’ve managed to steadily lose 8-10 pounds in the last 8 weeks.  I love the diet because it is a lifestyle diet adaptation, not just a temporary solution that somebody crammed...

Great article on a runner's diet →
Just found this fairly solid article on what a runner’s diet for sustained energy and weight loss (if that is a goal) should look like.  Runner’s World in this article gives a recommended breakdown of 50-25-25 (Carbs, Protein, Fats), which is common consumption pattern among runners.  Keep in mind that the ideal carbohydrates in this diet come from fruits and low-starch vegetables and...

This just in
Just found out from my physical therapist that, and I quote, “The back-squat is becoming extinct in training programs.”  Apparently, it has been recently discovered that back-squats are becoming attributed with shoulder and lower back injuries.  This is apparent for someone with bad form, but he mentioned that many sports trainers are phasing this lift out due to the problems...
